Make risk legible. The interesting problems here are ones where the honest answer is a distribution and the user wants a number.
What you’ll do
Design interfaces for people making consequential decisions with incomplete information — allocators supervising autonomous agents, desks managing collateral against uncertain valuations, teams watching settlement paths they are accountable for.
Work on data visualization where the data is genuinely uncertain. A confidence interval that a trader reads as a point estimate is a design failure with financial consequences, and getting that right is most of the job.
Own the systems as well as the screens: type, motion, and the visual language the lab publishes in.
What we look for
Product design experience in a domain where being wrong is expensive — finance, infrastructure, safety-critical tooling. Consumer polish is welcome; consumer assumptions are not.
Real fluency with data visualization, including its failure modes. You should have opinions about when a chart is lying.
The ability to prototype in code well enough to test an interaction rather than describe one.
How we work
Design sits alongside research rather than downstream of it. You will be in the argument about what a mechanism should do, not handed the result and asked to make it presentable.
